Design and weave your own winter scarf, from start to finish, using your favourite colours and a variety of lovely soft yarns.
- Tutor Karuna Peralta
Following a hands-on demonstration, you can select your colours and start to set up a rigid heddle loom using the direct warping method. There will be a wide variety of colours, fibres and textures to choose from (including some New Zealand luxury yarns)
After setting up your loom, you will be taught a few different techniques to weave a semi-plain, striped, textured or colour block scarf using a relaxed and intuitive method of weaving.
At the end, you will be shown how to finish your scarf including, twisting/knotting the tassel ends. If you prefer to turn your woven fabric into an infinity cowl instead, you can do that too.
If you live close by, and are still weaving at the end of day 2, you may wish to borrow the loom to finish your scarf at home and return it to the tutor (in central Nelson) the following week. Alternatively, you can make your fabric into a smaller sized infinity scarf.
No previous experience is necessary, just a willingness and an openness to learn and play. Once enrolled you will be sent our welcome letter and asked to choose your preferred colour story.
