The Aotea Square Ice Rink is open ahead of schedule.
The rink has been especially imported and will be run by Auckland family business Paradice Ice Skating, who also run ice rinks in Botany and Avondale. General Manager Chris Blong says that the response to the Ice Rink announcement has been huge.
“We’ve been thrilled with the response to the announcement that we’re putting a rink in Aotea Square,” he said. “We’ve been getting a lot of calls, as well as seeing a lot of interest on social media channels like Facebook and Twitter.”
“We’ve worked really hard to get the rink built and the ice ready for opening and we’re delighted that we can open early to give Aucklanders an extra few days to get on the ice.”
Auckland Mayor Len Brown says it’s really great to see local businesses like Paradice Ice Skating creating exciting opportunities for Aucklanders and visitors to enjoy.
“The ice rink is a great way to make Aotea Square a vibrant space this winter and I hope to look out my office window and see many people enjoying it over the next six weeks.”
The ice rink is the focal point of THE EDGE’s Winter Showtime programme of family-friendly events, providing a great range of entertainment opportunities for families.
