It is hard to believe perhaps, but the MG Classic is now in its 27th year, easily the longest running classic race meeting in New Zealand, if not the longest running motor race event of any type.
This year’s event will feature the Sybil Lupp Memorial Trophy race for British sports and saloon cars. Entry will be by invitation but any woman driving a British sports or saloon car can be reasonably assured of a start. It is also planned to have this event on the Sunday rather than the Saturday, as previously done.
As usual the mainstay of the weekend will be the classic sports and saloons, grouped according to speed and, where practical factors such as period and vehicle type. The programme will again see a full schedule of races for a range of classes and categories including the popular, muscle cars, historic sports and racing cars, the BMW E30 and Open classes and the colourful Pre 65 saloons, and hopefully Angus Fogg will again be participating in the latter group. In terms of determining eligibility entrants for the classic sports and saloon, and historic racing and sports racing classes should be guided by the requirements of Appendix 6 of the MotorSport Manual 2012.
