O Sole Mio is the second concert from New Zealand’s first dedicated Pops Orchestra. NZPO specialises in combining contemporary pop songs with classic music traditions, as well as performing the most popular classical compositions ever written.
This fantastic fusion of memorable, timeless and popular music covering instrumental and vocals, from different eras, is the unique element that makes the NZ Pops Orchestra a different kind of orchestra.
Following the NZPO’s brilliantly successful debut concert Follow Your Heart in March 2012 at Auckland Town Hall’s Great Hall, they return with another program of exciting music for all generations. O Sole Mio includes music by Crowded House, Cole Porter, The Exponents, U2, Simon & Garfunkel, Strauss, Beethoven, Puccini and more.
NZPO’s 55-member world-class instrumentalists will be conducted by Rita Paczian with soloists Gina Sanders (soprano), Will Martin (crossover tenor), and featuring Olivia Francis a brilliant young violinist, plus special guest the Dr The Right Honourable Lockwood Smith (baritone). Also joining the NZPO will be a massed youth choir of 150 students from all over the Greater Auckland region. The evening will be MC’d by the entertaining and erudite Max Cryer (MBE).
