This is a fantastic, picturesque course traversing iconic Hawke's Bay landmarks. It meanders up and down the three main peaks of Mt Erin, Mt Kahuranaki and historic Te Mata Peak. Much of it on private land, this course provides a unique Hawke's Bay experience meeting the needs of beginners and experienced participants alike.
For those of you participating for the first time it is a real challenge. The hills are hard and steep both up and down. There are several fences to climb and gates to be negotiated depending on stock movements. Be prepared to carry your bike on certain sections. There are two river crossings that will require arm linking or bike shouldering depending on how you are travelling. The weather on the tops can be adverse even on nice days, with exposed, windy ridges and you need to be adequately prepared for snow, rain or blistering sunshine.

An important note on pre race training: yes train heaps, but not on the private land that makes up big chunks of the course. Anyone caught training on the private land on the course will be disqualified. Because if you abuse it we lose it.
To enable us to run this event we have sought permission from a number of local landowners. It is important that we treat the land that we pass through with respect.
