A Strauss opera on tour - Great music - the full works!
The Gypsy Baron (Der Zigeunerbaron) by Johann Strauss II is a romantic musical feast of Comic Opera with music of great appeal including famous dance and march themes, well known arias, charming ensembles and vibrant chorus music. Johann Strauss II was known as the Waltz King, and many of the musical numbers are well known and used as concert pieces. Gypsy Baron matches the appeal of Strauss’s Die Fledermaus but in an historical setting enabling a wider range of expression.
As a romantic work on a grander scale than Die Fledermaus, Strauss calls for greater musical forces and this production tours with 36 players from Orchestra Wellington and a cast of 45 singers. Reduced versions of the work have been published to simplify performance, but this is a rare opportunity to hear Strauss’s Gypsy Baron in the full original version, performed in English, on tour with full sets and wardrobe, an impressive event with wonderful music, not to be missed!
