All levels are taught at the same time, just choose a convenient date and your current sewing level. With a maximum number of 6 per class this ensures individual attention over the four week series.
101 Beginner Sewing
These classes give you an extensive beginner foundation, designed to cover the basics of the: sewing machine, cutting layouts, pressing, fabrics, supplies/tools and beginner techniques.
Discover tips to make techniques easier and give your projects a professional finish. Over the four weeks, you will make 3 items; drawstring bag, cushion with zip, and one other tote bag, apron, plastic bag holder etc.
The projects include many techniques that are transferable to commercial pattern and garment sewing. Such as: hems, straps, elastic casings, zips, buttonholes, patch pocket, and facings.
You will also receive free patterns and instructions to keep you stitching at home. Prerequisite No experience necessary.
Commercial Pattern Level One to Three (Intermediate Sewing)
After completing the Comprehensive 101 beginners series you can choose to do the commercial patterns classes
Commercial Pattern Level One
Building upon 101, in these classes, you will learn all the commercial pattern basics including; taking body measurements, understanding the pattern envelope, preparing the fabric, laying out the pattern pieces, adjusting the pattern sizes to fit, understanding pattern layout diagrams, sewing terms, symbols, sizing, simple adaptations and a variety of more advanced sewing techniques and professional tips.
You will purchase a commercial pattern from a pre-selected list and complete your project during the series. Prerequisite must have completed 101 level or have similar experience.
Level two: Now you will choose from a more expanded pattern selection with greater variety. Pus learn more advanced sewing techniques: easy ways to sew sleeves, facings for necklines and armholes, waistbands and under-stitching to give a professional finish, how and where to use bias binding, the best interfacings to use where and why, yokes, gathers, pleats, Discover how to easily sew an invisible zip, where it is best used and tips to make it professional, and fitting tips that give your garments that professional finish.
Some sewing at home may be required to complete your project. This level builds upon on the skills and experience from previous classes. Must have completed previous levels or have similar experience.
