Get your 2014/2015 sea-swim calendar off to a flying start ... participate in arguably the most scenic of all Auckland's ocean swims - a great route that uniquely hugs the coast so you are never far from shore, with the backdrop of picturesque Devonport and the towering North Head headland.
New Category and New Junior Short Course
To celebrate the 6th year running this event we have added a special Birthday Suit category for those seeking aquatic tinglings in the Waitemata Harbour (a special boat supplied for getting your swim kit off and back on again demurely at the conclusion of the swim), and a 1.2km Junior Short Course that takes youngsters around this iconic headland via a shorter more achievable route.
So join like-minded swimmers along with family and friends at the 2014 Round North Head Classic, organised by the Devonport Swim Club.
This year’s Standard Course for Juniors & Seniors is from Windsor Reserve in the Devonport village, around North Head to Cheltenham Beach (Balmain Reserve), a distance of approximately 2.5km.
This year’s Junior Short Course for Juniors Only is from Torpedo Bay Beach in Devonport, around North Head to Cheltenham Beach (Balmain Reserve), a distance of approximately 1.2km.
Surf Life Saving New Zealand will provide all the safety on-water, with St John on hand for first aid. Fresh pastries, bacon butties, and refreshments will be supplied (to competitors and volunteers) on the finish line. Great Spot Prize draw afterwards makes for a fun event all round.
We encourage friends and family to walk the route along King Edward Parade and around North Head. Torpedo Bay Wharf also offers a great vantage point to observe swimmers' progress.
