Movie themes from Harry Potter to the Godfather will reverberate around North Hagley Park at this year’s Sparks.
Pre-show entertainment starts at 5.30pm with the Justice Brass Band, Christchurch Youth Orchestra comprising some of our best musicians between the ages of 16 and 25, and Japanese drumming group Takumi who will reveal the Japanese culture through heart-pounding beats and stunning visual performances.
Then Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of conductor Kenneth Young, begins an exciting programme of music from the movies at 7.30pm.
You may know Wagner’s Ride of the Valkyries which first took shape in the 1850s, but it gained world wide recognition when used in the movie Apocalypse Now.
You will also hear Rossini’s popular William Tell Overture that has accompanied The Lone Ranger, Toy Story and Clockwork Orange, John Barry’s James Bond themes, Rogers and Hammerstein’s suite from the Sound Of Music and many more.
There will be special guest appearances throughout the evening including
renowned guitarist Graham Wardrop, Epic Entertainment and cellist Matthias Balzat.
Bring a picnic, family and friends. Sing along, dance, or just let the music wash over you.
The spectacular closing fireworks display will be accompanied by the Superman theme.
