Love computer games?
Want to learn basic coding skills?
Want to learn coding skills by playing a computer game?
Then our Clan of Coders Club is for you!
You can join our Clan of Coders club anytime and participate from home and/or in the library when we meet weekly at Flaxmere Library on Wednesdays between 4:00-5:00pm. This real life meet is when you can work together to solve levels you are stuck on, show off your mad coding skills, or even just hang out and play. Please note: Computers are limited during Club Time, and will be first in - first serve and sharing basis!
If you want to learn to program, you don't need lessons. You just need to write a lot of code and have an awesome time doing it. Suitable for ages 8+, but if you can read and type – you can code!
Join the Clan of Coders CluB via our website and one of the librarians will set up a pack especially for you.
Information for parents:
What is my child getting into?
CodeCombat is a web based fantasy game that teaches players the basics of computer science. Players don’t learn to be engineers by playing CodeCombat: they learn the more important foundational skills like formal syntax, conditional logic, and variables. The game itself is set in a fantasy realm in which the player must code to defeat the forces of the marauding ogre hordes.
What does it cost?
Nothing! CodeCombat has a free play element which includes 110+ levels which cover every concept of coding. For extra practice levels, you can pay a monthly subscription – but this is not required for the Clan of Coders Club.
