Men’s Grade

Four Wellington clubs and four Manawatu clubs will prove top competition in this grade for the 10 Premier Clubs in Hawke’s Bay. Last year four H.B. teams progressed to the Semi Finals and Havelock North won the Ian Baker Cup convincingly over Hastings R & S after Trinity Spooner-Neera scored five tries in the final.

Current Wellington entries are – Upper Hutt Rams, Marist St. Pat’s, O.B. University and Pacific Warriors. From Manawatu we have – Kia Toa, Linton Army, Manawatu Fijians and Freyberg O.B.

Women’s Grade

At the recent N.Z. Provincial Seven’s at Rotorua the final was played between Manawatu and Wellington. We have the two top clubs from both of these unions Last year’s winners of the Jiangsu Jersey, Feilding Old Boys Oroua, plus Kia Toa up against Marist St. Pat’s and 2014 winner Avalon from Wellington. Interestingly a team from Gisborne Pirates will join with H.B. Clubs, Havelock North(2015 Runners Up) Napier Pirate, MAC and the host club Central, to make for a strong competition.

Colts Grade

Petone (winners in 2014 and 2015) will defend their possession of the Angus Cup. Upper Hutt Rams will add strong outside competition with two competitive teams from Palmerston North B.H.S. and a team from Feilding OB Oroua. Six Hawke’s Bay teams make up the draw presently.

After thirty two previous tournaments the system must be working as the day attracts over 500 players, their many supporters and the local public, who can look forward to a great day’s entertainment!
