“On a mild autumn evening in March at one of Australia's major folk festivals, the huge crowd in the big marquee claps and shout their admiration for the band on stage. This is a Himmerland concert, this Danish band is one of the most travelled outfits on Denmark's roots and folk music scene. Right now it is the drummer Ayi Solomon that has all the audience's attention. Bathed in coloured light from the spots, he sings and dances around behind his drum-kit, while his hands flash over the skins so fast that the eye can hardly keep up with them. Then the rest of the band join in on saxophone, guitar and flute the marquee throbs with new roots, world music and happy listeners.”

Himmerland: A group of exceptional musicians, each with different life stories and traditions in their rucksacks. They come from Denmark, Poland, Ireland and Ghana. Their original music is infused with different traditions from: the Faroes, Sweden, Hungary, Bulgaria, Italy, Germany Belgium, Scotland, Canada, Ukraine, Russia, South America, Britain and Ireland.

They represent a Denmark where people from around the world can meet, live together and all contribute to a sweetly simmering cultural melting pot of new world music. Nice!

Nuala Kennedy: Buoyant Irish singer and flute player with a hauntingly beautiful voice and adventurous instrumentation, has become a close friend of HIMMERLAND. Nuala Kennedy's singing and flute playing springs from the traditional music of Ireland and Scotland and from the depths of her imagination. From Glasgow to Hawaii, The Yukon to Cape Cod and, California to Drogheda, Nuala Kennedy is a musical adventurer who is known world-wide as a superlative performer of traditional music with it being described as unique, evocative, and soul-satisfying.
The Irish Times says “a flute player and composer of remarkable finesse, fearless of the unknown”.
