Himmerland with Nuala Kennedy are fresh from sold out performances at Glasgow’s iconic Celtic Connections Arts and Music Festival
Himmerland with Nuala Kennedy will be touring New Zealand for three weeks in March and April. They are invited guests at: CubaDupa Street Festival in Wellington; Tauranga Jazz Festival and the Canterbury Folk Festival plus are playing at clubs and venues all over New Zealand.
“On a mild autumn evening in March at one of Australia's major folk festivals, the huge crowd in the big marquee claps and shout their admiration for the band on stage. This is a Himmerland concert, this Danish band is one of the most travelled outfits on Denmark's roots and folk music scene. Right now it is the drummer Ayi Solomon that has all the audience's attention. Bathed in coloured light from the spots, he sings and dances around behind his drum-kit, while his hands flash over the skins so fast that the eye can hardly keep up with them. Then the rest of the band join in on saxophone, guitar and flute the marquee throbs with new roots, world music and happy listeners.”
Himmerland: A group of exceptional musicians, each with different life stories and traditions in their rucksacks. They come from Denmark, Poland, Ireland and Ghana. They represent a Denmark where people from around the world can meet, live together and all contribute to a sweetly simmering cultural melting pot of new world music. Nice!
