About the Musicians

David Paquette & his Trio

David Paquette is an International Jazz Pianist. He has recorded more than 50 albums and highlights of his career include touring the European Jazz circuit, establishing and directing a seventeen-year running annual Jazz Festival on New Zealand's Waiheke Island, and years as the Musical Director for the Four Seasons Hotel in Sydney.

David's first steps as a professional musician saw him playing ski resorts in Colorado in the early 1970s.

His first album was produced by John McVie from Fleetwood Mac.

In 1984 David toured as the Musical Director for Spike Milligan throughout Australia. Over this period David travelled to New Zealand to play. Taken with the beauty of Waiheke Island David returned to New Zealand to live.

David devotes a lot of his time to his Charitable Trust, the “Paquette Jazz Foundation” which supports both upcoming and existing talent.

David's music is available on iTunes and Spotify.

David Paquette found his new home in Wairoa. The Wairoa Long River Swing Concert will be his debut performance. He will be performing with his trio - Lindsay Meech (Trumpet) and Mikael Kovalovs (Guitar). They have recently performed successful shows throughout Auckland, Rotorua and Wellington with rave reviews, and are very excited to bring their sound to Wairoa.

This concert is the starting point for what will be Wairoa's annual Long River Music Festival commencing 2017.

Twistin' the Swing

Twistin' the Swing is an all-acoustic band featuring Mikael Kovalovs (Guitar), James Senyd (Violine), Djordje Nikolic (Upright Bass) and Phillip Beatson (Guitar), influenced by Gypsy Jazz in the style of Django Reinhardt.

The repertoire of Twistin' the Swing is a great mixture of world and gypsy swing music. You'll hear some great Latin, American Jazz and European music rendered through their own interpretation.

The dynamics between the different personalities of the band members has affected their performance constructively, which can be seen in their positive and highly energetic performances, as well as more cool and relaxing sessions – making their music suitable for any occasion.

Twistin' the Swing has performed on many different occasions including festivals such as ”Music in the park”, ”Taste of Auckland” and ”The Alliance Française Music Festival”.
