Hawkes Bay is set to commemorate 400 years since the death of William Shakespeare in a truly unique way. Shakespeare in the Park is an exciting community event set in the grounds of the Church Road Winery, Hawkes Bay. The festival is framed by an authentic Elizabethan Village complete with Guild Stalls built with thatched and shingle roofs that provide the atmosphere, colour, feasting and fun of the Elizabethan period. Craftsmen and women display their wares, entertainers rove the festival park, food and drink vendors abound and there are activities for children.
In the late afternoon, as the guild stalls close, patrons take their place in Hawkes Bay's own homage to the Globe Theatre. 2016 will see Director Peter Cottrell from production and entertainment company, "The Drama Workshop", bring to the stage "Much Ado about Nothing", by William Shakespeare with a stellar cast of actors supported by local musical ensemble "Confetti".
Doors open at 12pm and there will be food and drink for sale, stallholders with items for sale and display and games for the whole family. The performance of "Much Ado about Nothing" will commence at approximately 4.30pm. Please bring a picnic blanket or low back chair to sit on and cash to make purchases from the vendors. Please note Children under 5 years old are free.
Entrance to the festival will be via Tironui Drive, Taradale and off street parking will be available around the venue. For more information on the event please visit www.facebook.com/shakespearefestival.HB
