Americana and rock & roll got married and had triplets!
You are invited to the christening party, at a Northland venue near you, as Chicago’s Luke Henry and Melbourne’s Madeline Leman & the Desert Swells and Leah Senior announce a triple record release tour. Don’t miss the bargain of a musical lifetime, a cover of $5 at each venue.
Chicago artist Luke Henry, frontman of Luke Henry & Rabbitfoot, Melbourne artists Madeline Leman & the Desert Swells and solo artist Leah Senior all celebrate record releases with Northland tour kicking off at Auckland’s Wine Cellar on Friday 5 February 2016, playing around the Northland, wrapping up in Wellington on 21 February. Luke Henry then travels on to tour the South Island solo.
Channelling a crooner thrice his age, Luke Henry will be playing old and new originals and celebrating Luke Henry & Rabbitfoot’s debut album: American Dreams. His self-produced debut album is laden with a variety of sounds borrowed from all over the musical spectrum. From pop- lapside tunes, to phased out punk moments, and haunting violin, the album beholds the musical variety for which Luke strives. He will be performing solo, sharing the personal experience in which these songs were created. Check him out and listen to the album at www.lukehenrysounds.com
Madeline Leman and the Desert Swells create an Americana retro surf sound that is both silky smooth and a little bit country kitsch. Influenced by the rock n’ roll, blues, surf and soul traditions Madeline and her band create a fresh sound that transcends the country genre. Influenced by Patsy Cline, Hank Williams and Eilen Jewell, Madeline captivates audiences with stories of strong female protagonists, cowboys and truck drivers who ramble their way through the mundane and the profound. Prepare to rock out as the band launches their EP “Tennessee Diamond”. The EP features an eclectic variety of country sounds and players.
Leah Senior, who also plays in the Desert Swells celebrates the release of her much anticipated debut album “Summer’s on the Ground”, released by Flightless, the same label that hosts Aussie Psych lords, King Gizard and The Wizard Lizard. Recorded in an old hall with Nick Huggins and Mark Lang, Leah Senior's album lilts between the past and present, the city and space. Leah grew up in the country listening to her mother singing arias whilst blasting rock and roll from her bedroom. Her music now falls in the middle of these worlds and into a dim wallpapered room of slightly out of tune parlour guitars and the ghosts of Summer and Nick Drake.
Catch this international gathering of up and coming artists and just try to keep your foot from tapping and your soul from grooving.
The others fly back to Melbourne after a final show at Rogue & Vagabond, Wellington and Luke Henry continues touring solo in the South Island. Go to lukehenrysounds website for the listing of the full tour under "gigs".
