The 119th Mackenzie A&P Highland Show will be held on the 17th of April 2017.
The Schedule of Classes for the 2017 Show and Entry Forms are now available for download online at our website. Entries taken online at www.showdayonline.com. Closing date for most entries is on March 10th which gives you plenty of time to prepare your entries.
Please consider entering as exhibits are an important part of the Show… with over 1000 classes, I’m pretty sure there is at least one class for everyone! Maybe one of these areas will catch your eye: home and farm produce, wine and home brew, cooking, flowers, patchwork, needlework, art, crafts (card making, scrapbooking, jewellery, sculpture, carving, pottery), photography, dog trials, local pet dog (children), highland dancing, piping and solo drumming, alpacas, wearable arts, equestrian (from miniatures to draught), sheep, wool, cattle, goats or poultry (chickens, ducks and pigeons).
Lifestylers… check out the Flock Sheep classes or enter your alpaca, goat, chicken or duck!
Annual competitions include a New Zealand Kennel Club Show, Wood Chopping, Mackenzie Shears (a Shearing Sports NZ competition), Mackenzie Cowboy Challenge (classes for youth and rookies…details on www.cowboychallenge.co.nz) and a Gift Lamb Competition (would you like to participate by donating a lamb?)
Other attractions this year include Fencing Demonstrations and a Man vs Machine Fencing Competition, Craig Smith, author of the Award Winning “Wonky Donkey” will be not only playing, but also may offer a free creative writing workshop (contact Secretary if interested), The Sparkle Fairy, a great children’s entertainer and, of course, the carnival. We also have a wide variety of food available… from the kid’s favourites (hot dogs, chips and snow cones) to food with a more unique flavour (Mexican, Japanese, ‘Wild’ NZ food, Turkish kebabs, etc)… something for everyone.
There are over 400 sites… shopping for everyone… men, women and children! If you are interested in booking a site, applications are out now (due on the 10th of March). If you would like to be sent one, please contact me.
We have a couple more pages available for advertisements in our Programmes (out of the 7 total). The Programmes are given out free to everyone who enters the Show and are a great way to advertise your business and support the Mackenzie Show. Contact the Secretary for more info.
The Show Committee would like to extend an open invitation for Show helpers. This doesn’t mean you have to ‘join’ the Committee (though you are more than welcome to!)… but with an ageing Committee, we can definitely use always use more helpers for setting up, taking down and on the day. Please, please consider putting your hand up and contacting me.
