Screening as part of our Kiwi Music Film Fest season.
A festival of freedom, dance, music participation and "a damn good party," The Gathering attracted thousands to the Takaka Hills near Nelson each New Year from 1996 to 2002.
On a budget of less than $1,000, Alison Green asked Kylie Plunkett and a team of friends to create a vibrant audiovisual record of The Gathering 97/98, set to original NZ electronica tracks.
It includes the behind-the-scenes set-up, the wild and crazy days and nights of the party itself, and interviews with the crew, participants, and the local police.
The documentary, raw footage, master tapes, and copies are part of the New Zealand audiovisual collection at Ngā Taonga Sound & Vision.
