Presented in association with Summer Movies al Fresco as part of the public programme for Our Moon: Then, Now & Beyond.
It’s 1964 and scientists are confused by evidence on the Moon of a Victorian-era space flight. The First Men in the Moon (1964, 103mins), it transpires, were the eccentric scientist (Lionel Jeffries) and heroine (Martha Hyer), who voyaged to the Moon from Bedford in a home-made space vehicle way back in 1899. Their story is preceded by the classic short A Trip to the Moon (1906, 16mins), one of the few surviving films by Georges Méliès which plays out the making of an ambitious and foolhardy plan to fly to the Moon.
These special moon screenings will be presented just outside the entrance to the Museum, in Upper Trafalgar Street, in association with Summer Movies al Fresco.
Movie starts at dusk.
Cost: Gold coin donation to Summer Movies on the night.
