A car accident took the life of a promising 11yr old dancer Alana on Xmas Eve 1989 after she performed to 1,500 in Wellington. This prompted other dancers to fund-raise for a biennial dance event in Alana’s name ‘Alana Haines Australasian Awards’ & today it is the most prestigious & largest Australasian event of its kind & supported by the dance community around the world.
670 talented contestants 11 – 18yrs from throughout Australasia compete for awards totaling $450,000 including cash, top international scholarships with airfares allocated to Finalists on Monday evening by an international jury from USA, China, Germany & Australia.
Hosted by Sir Jon Trimmer – the Grand Finals Mon evening includes guest performers’ from Australia & Royal New Zealand Ballet.
This year’s competitors are our future stars. Many Finalists are now in ballet companies or international schools throughout representing NZ & Australia.
