Aquapella - Celebrating Water In Song

All Ages

Women in Harmony, based in Christchurch, is a fun, dynamic community choir with a broad repertoire of world music.

We are primarily an a capella choir, but we like to capitalize on the musicians among our members, occasionally adding the accompaniment of guitar, ukulele, or percussion; or the keyboard of our exuberant director, jazz pianist Mary Ruston. We perform at folk clubs and a wide variety of community events.

“Aquapella” presents a selection of songs from around the world, inspired by the theme of water, from a rousing Zimbabwean river-crossing song, to a beautiful Japanese water blessing, seeking healing of our planet’s waters; and not forgetting some good old favourites from all genres, including country and folk. And we always have a surprise or two up our sleeves!

The programme includes solo spots from some of the choir’s seasoned Folk Club performers, including Judi Smitheram, Eileen Reid and Kristina Godfrey.

Join us to celebrate the way in which singers and song writers across cultures and through the ages, have been inspired by humanity’s deep connection with water. There’ll be songs to make you laugh, songs that bring back memories, and plenty to make you pause and think about the place of water in our lives.

We look forward to seeing you at our concert.
