We normally limit our exhibitions to pottery but when Phillippa approached us to have an exhibition in our gallery we could not refuse the challenge. Her first exhibition with us was a great success so we are excited to be having a second!
Light designer and sculptor Phillippa Kenny has been making light-based work, suited to both domestic and commercial spaces, since 2004.
In this new body of work, geometric abstract forms tip, wedge, float and poise precariously. Reflecting on the shifting nature of states of equilibrium, Phillippa’s work alludes to our malleable, transient and ultimately changeable perceptions of the world.
The final composition of each lightbox is the result of an immersive and dynamic process of balancing and re-balancing, with each work in the series taking a fragment from its predecessor to move forward, reflecting the overall journey we take in our response to daily life and living.
Phillippa received a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Sculpture) in 2001 from Auckland University of Technology, Auckland, New Zealand and was awarded first place in the Depot Art Award for Untitled, 2001, that year.
Phillippa has exhibited in a number of Auckland galleries and outdoor sites, and several of Phillippa’s works are included in the Wallace Arts Trust Collection.
