Curtain Up!

Curtain Up! is a visual snapshot of the Auckland theatre scene from the 1950s to the 1980s. The exhibition explores the rise of professional drama in Auckland from its grassroots in community and youth theatre.

The exhibition includes examples of venues lost and saved, demonstrating the importance of performance space to the success or otherwise of theatre companies over time.

A wealth of material held within the Auckland Libraries’ Heritage Collections will be on display from programmes and photographs, to posters, flyers and tickets. This exhibition will appeal to anyone with an interest in performance, drama, design and Auckland’s history.
