Every year, the Epsom Girls Rowing squad leave the water and bring their rowing machines onto land, challenging themselves and each other to row the length of the Waikato river... not once, but twice, with each girl rowing 4 times for nearly half an hour each time.

They'll be rowing between 10am and 3pm at Lumsden Green, in the heart of Newmarket, at the corner of Khyber Pass and Broadway.

This is a massive effort from them all, so please come along and support them!

Our squad this year is 40 rowers strong, aged from 13 through to 17. We've already competed at the WRC regatta on Lake Pupuke, and have other regattas throughout the summer at Mercer and Karapiro, before finishing up the Maadi Cup National Championships, held this year on Lake Ruataniwha, near Twizel in the South Island.

The Epsom Girls rowing club has a strong and proud rowing history. Established in 1987 to facilitate participation and competition in the sport of rowing among the School’s students, we have produced champion rowers such as Kayla Pratt (gold at 2014 World Champs, bronze at 2013 World Champs) and Lexi Kerr (gold in 2014 Trans-Tasman Cup). Closer to home, at the 2019 National Secondary Schools Maadi Cup regatta, our 8+ crews made A finals in every age group and we won one gold and two bronze medals.

We're affliated with Auckland Rowing Club, and row on the Tamaki river most days. We are also affiliated to the NZ Secondary Schools Rowing Association. Our rowers race for Epsom Girls Grammar in school regattas and ARC in Club regattas. We often lend our rowing boats to the community rowing initiatives at ARC and our coaching team is part of the wider ARC coaching team.

During the winter, we also collaborate with Waitemata Rowing Club (WRC), one of Auckland’s oldest Rowing Clubs, sharing coaching expertise, boats, and the opportunity to row together.
