The ESDM is an extremely promising intervention which has been used in over 35 countries worldwide. It is a play-based behavioural therapy that targets a wide range of developmental skills for children with or suspected to have autism and who are under the age of 5. ESDM therapy aims to accelerate child learning through fun interactions which are embedded in daily routines and play.
Our team leader Dr. Hannah Waddington (lecturer, certified ESDM therapist and practising educational psychologist) will be running this ESDM workshop focusing on hands-on strategies for helping your child to communicate without words. The specific focus of this workshop will be strategies for teaching children how to communicate by using non-verbal communication such as gestures (e.g. pointing, reaching, and waving) and intentional noises. It will also include strategies to promote sharing interests with others (e.g. giving, sharing, and showing).
Tickets for this event are $25 for professionals working with children with autism and $15 for each whānau member who has a child with autism. Places are limited to 35 people.
