Celebrate Kiwi Month with the Whakatāne Kiwi Trust and a guided walk through Ōhope Scenic Reserve!
Your guided tour will begin with a short presentation at the Whakatāne Kiwi Trust Information Trailer, which will be located at Mahy Reserve, Ōhope. Here you will learn all about the Whakatāne Kiwi Trust and the work done by our amazing volunteers to protect and promote kiwi and other native species in the Whakatāne District.
On completion, you will be shuttled to Burma Road and the start of the Kiwi Tracker walk. One of our experienced and passionate volunteers will then take you on a guided walk through Ōhope Scenic Reserve, where you will experience the work of the Trust first hand, and learn all about our native flora and fauna. Whilst there will be plenty of stops and chances to rest, a good standard of fitness is required as the track can be steep in parts.
Please bring: a water bottle, snacks, warm clothing, a raincoat and any personal medication. Sturdy walking shoes/hiking boots are recommended (no jandals!),
Please allow four hours for this activity (20 minutes for the talk, 10 minutes for the shuttle and approximately 3.5 hours for the walk. The walk will finish back in Mahy Reserve, so you are welcome to leave any vehicles there for the duration of the activity.
