This Sing-in event will give singers of all ages, experienced or not, the opportunity to sing the famous Hallelujah Chorus and other favourite movements from Handel’s perennial masterpiece, The Messiah.

The lofty cathedral space will resound with all-comers learning some of Handel’s best known choruses. The famous Hallelujah Chorus is, of course, compulsory for an event like this, but there will be a variety of other choruses, such as All we like Sheep, Worthy is the Lamb and the great Amen which ends the work. The format is simple, the experience is a lot of fun, and all are welcome.

Anthony Tattersall, Director of Music at the Cathedral, will conduct and coach the singers. The organist is Michael Fletcher, Director of Music at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Wellington. Michael played for a Waiapu Cathedral Choir concert last year and the cathedral choristers are very pleased that he has agreed to return for this event and bring some of his Wellington choir with him.

The event begins with registration from 1pm and from 1:30pm the chosen excerpts will be practiced and perfected for a couple of hours. Singers are asked to register in advance, and to bring their own score if they have access to one, though there will be scores available to borrow for the afternoon.

After a sociable afternoon tea, the participants will sing the pieces they have learned to an audience of family, friends and anyone who wishes to come along at 4pm.
