250 years ago, botanists Joseph Banks and Daniel Solander accompanied Captain Cook on his voyage to Aotearoa and collected the first herbarium samples.
Celebrate the anniversary of these first collections with the Friends of the Botanic Gardens during October.

Enjoy a free guided walk daily and discover a number of plants named for Banks and Solander in the Botanic Gardens.

NZ Flora Collections
Join Ewen Cameron, Curator of Botany at Auckland Museum, and discover the first descriptions, illustrations and scientific collections of the New Zealand Flora.

Creation and Curation: 1769 Garden
Join Malcolm Rutherford, Curator of the 1769 Garden, to learn about the development of this unique garden, how it is used and the stories woven into the design.
