Khufu's Ethiopiques: Ethio Groove
Inspired by Afro-mystical grooves and the melodies of Mulatu Astatke. Wellington's finest play some of the golden tunes of the great Ethiopiques era.
Featuring Ben Lemi (Trinity Roots) on drumkit, Ato Baidoo (Ghana) on percussion, Justin Firefly Clarke (Congress of Animals) on wah guitar, Bryn van Vliet (Tunes of I) on sax, Toby Laing (Fat Freddies Drop) on trumpet, Patrick Bleakley (Blerta) on bass, and Ayrton Foote (Roger Fox) on keys.
"Upon hallucination, the Khufu ship sails again. Sealed three-thousand years ago at the foot of the Pyramid of Giza, a vision appears on the horizon: it is a boat laden with treasures, and of silken sound-tapestries woven of etheric melodic threads."
