Kids rule on this special day. We welcome inquisitive minds of all ages to ask their best astronomy questions, and take photos with our planetarium pilots in their astronaut costumes. Dress up in your favourite space theme and get a sweet treat to take in with you!
We are Aliens starts us off right here on Earth. Ours is a small world. The human race is better – and faster – connected than ever before, but what about elsewhere? One day, could we be part of a galactic community sharing our knowledge and ideas? Or is Earth the only planet with life? Narrated by actor Rupert Grint, and with music by New Zealand composer Rhian Sheehan, join us in the hunt for alien life in this amazing 3D show.
Spacetronauts are taking off in the Perpetual Guardian Planetarium! Hitch a ride with our planetarium pilots on an adventure through the solar system. Take a close-up look at the sun, fly through the rings of Saturn and hold on to your helmets as we zoom out to the edges of the galaxy. This show is aimed at under sevens, and explores the wonders of our solar system through a live, interactive adventure.
We Are Stars takes you on a journey through time and space. Explore the secrets of our cosmic chemistry, in amazing Stereo 3D. Connect life on Earth to the evolution of the Universe by following the formation of the earliest hydrogen atoms that will form the molecules for life today. This show features stunning cartoon animation, simple explanations for the whole family and a whole lot of fun. Narrated by Andy Serkis.
Capcom GO! is an immersive 3D Planetarium show all about the Apollo programme, and what it took to put the first person on the Moon 50 years ago. Discover the story behind this historic moment, which continues to inspire generations of explorers and dreamers. These Apollo 11 astronauts were just two of nearly 400 000 people who had worked for more than 10 years towards this goal. But how did they do it? Come and find out.
The Sky Tonight is a live presentation by one of our Science Communicators, which looks at what you could see if you were stargazing in Dunedin that evening. Learn about stars and constellations, and how to find them in the night sky. Ask your curliest astronomy questions, and explore the stars, planets, galaxies, and other amazing things we can see in the heavens.
Saturday 24 August Shows run for 45 minutes each.
Entry is free for those under three years when accompanied by a paying adult, and children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult.
