Selwyn Community Education is based at Selwyn College, Kohimarama, Auckland.

This course runs over eight Monday evenings 7 - 9pm and courses start:
11 February 2019 or
29 July 2019 or
14 October 2019

Learn how to create your own design and pattern. Start from scratch with your basic measurements or use your own draft if you have one. Or bring a favourite garment from your wardrobe as inspiration, a picture of a garment you would like to make, or a pattern you would like to adjust.

During this class students work with paper (supplied) and calico.

Expected learning outcomes:
You will adapt an existing pattern, creating your own unique design, and tailor a toile (calico) to fit. We will discuss suitable fabric options for your finished design, but it is not expected that you will create an entire garment from drafting to completion during this class, as the emphasis is on developing and cutting the pattern, rather than finishing the garment.

If you wish, you can finish sewing your garment at home, or enrol in the Continuing Sewing Course.

Prerequisite skills for attending Pattern Alteration and Design:
No previous pattern making experience is necessary but a basic knowledge of garment construction is required. Please telephone the office on 5219623 if you need further information about this. This course is suitable for those new to pattern making and those who would like to extend their design skills.

Bring:
- Your Design Idea… Could be a sketch or an existing garment
- Notebook
- Phone or iPad with Internet Connection
- A Commercial Pattern (week 2)
- Calico (twice the length of your garment)
- A Ruler or Set Square
- Pencil and Pen
- Pencil Sharpener
- Eraser
- Pins
- Paper and Fabric Scissors (available in class, but you may wish to use your own)

Our mission is to provide quality affordable and accessible lifelong learning opportunities for our community. Able to those with some sewing knowledge.
