Pedal Party

The Bike Tauranga Pedal Party, held with the support of Sport Bay of Plenty, is a community pedal power event celebrating the formation of the Bike Tauranga Advocacy Group, promoting cycling for health, fitness, and wellbeing and to show community support for the Tauranga City Council Cycle Plan.

With three safe cycle route options designed to cater for all ages and abilities from Striders to Seniors, there’s a pedal powered fun ride for everyone, families and individual riders included. Two of the three routes take in the new K-Valley Cycle Bridge and BMX Park and the third children friendly route is a comfortable easy loop along and around the Kopurererua Stream area.

All routes will be on safe off road cycle paths in the Kopurererua Valley (K-Valley) cycling recreational playground with the start and finish of the rides being at the 17th Ave Skate Park Reserve. Marshalls will be cycling with participants ensuring the smooth running of the event and there will be an optional pre-ride bike check available.

Other activities planned are event MC, BMX display at the Cambridge Road BMX Park, Lex Spencer's famous crazy bikes, bike shop tents, food and (non alchoholic) drink vending.

Route A: 16km - ideal for experienced cyclists
Route B: 8km - ideal for intermediate school pupils and above
Route C: 4.5km - ideal for those under 10 years - must be accompanied by a parent

What to bring: Bicycle and helmet, sunscreen, suitable footwear. We recommend participants bring water on the ride to avoid dehydration.

The event is open to all bikes including e-bikes. All routes are on mostly flat cycle paths but two of the three routes will cross the elevated K-Valley Cycle Bridge.

Note: If the weather is bad then this event will be cancelled. Please check Sport BOPs website or Bike Tauranga’s Facebook page for cancellation details. If the weather is looking bad a decision will be made by 7am.
