Before modern musical instruments existed, humans had to make music somehow - using what resources were available around them. Come and rediscover the age-old art of resourceful music making - Resoursonance!
Newtown Community and Cultural Centre is pleased to host musician and co-founder/co-ordinator of The Rubbish Trip, Liam Prince, and local musician and instrument inventor extraordinaire, Mikey Jamieson, for an afternoon of making musical instruments, resourcefully. We'll upcycle all manner of everyday objects and materials - sourced from the Second Treasures tip shop, secondhand and op shops, the natural and city environments, and our living and work spaces. Everyone is welcome, young and old, musician or not!
We'll also be asking: what can music teach us about wastefulness? We'll chat about general principles and practical actions that help to minimise waste, highlighting music as one specific area in which a resourceful, waste-conscious approach can help you to reduce your rubbish in all areas of life.
Resoursonance is funded by Wellington City Council and Creative New Zealand - thank you!
Koha also welcome and appreciated.
Please note: This venue is the Newtown Hall on Daniell Street (opposite from the Mediterranean Food Warehouse)!
