For ‘Singing to the Dead’, 13 of Northart’s longest-standing members were invited present works that pay homage to people, places, ideas and events that have been pivotal to their own personal development and well-being, on an artistic, familial, political or emotional level.
Sculpture, photography, textile art, object art, embroidery, painting and performance all feature in this powerful and poignant exhibition. The line-up of artists is Karl Amundsen, Frances Atkins, Harvey Benge, Freda Brierley, Robert Ellis, Robyn Hughes, Maureen Lander, John Lyall, Phil Neary, Marie Potter, Ross Ritchie, Helen Schamroth and Frank van Schaik, a number of whose association with the gallery stretches back to its beginnings in 1998. Several of the artists will give a floor talk on Sunday 20 October at 2pm.
