David Bruce Russell, and his dream of a Whau River Canal.
For nearly 170 years, Aucklanders had the dream of canals linking the Manukau and Waitemata Harbours. If the Whau Canal had come true, the tip of Rosebank Peninsula and nearby Te Atatu would have become part of a major port, rivalling those at the city and Onehunga.
Last century, one man, David Bruce Russell, tried to keep the fading dream alive. This is his story.
