Welcoming all to live music in the Horowhenua - a big evening on Friday November 8th with open mic blackboard to start, followed by supper and then the Special Guests. Come and support live music in a friendly, folk club.

The Levin Folk Music Club is excited to have as November guests The Wooden Box Band and Paddy Burgin. The band is a funky folky eclectic unrelated family of musicians from all walks of life who enjoy writing and playing urban folk music around Wellington and environs beyond. They've been nicknamed the "folk darlings" of the capital but judging by their instrumental line up they're a bit more than that. Usually they come in a group of half a dozen, just like bread rolls.

The band has three singers. One of them is Jessie Moss (late of Jesse James and the Outlaws and other bands) on vocals and guitar. alongside her is Emily Clemmet from the Balkanistas, Cumbria Bros and Ska Pai on trumpet, fiddle and vocals. Also in the band is Paddy Burgin and his cedar topped jumbo guitar. All three write songs and work hard on their harmonies to get them across.

Anchorman of the band is Murray Costello on bass who used to do the same job with the Mockers and a hundred bands since then. Lead guitar duties are taken by Jeremy Desmon who sandwiches the band in with Newtown Rocksteady and building a tiny house. the drumming stool is ususally personed by Olivia Campion.

The Wooden Box Band have produced a number of CDs of original music with their latest being Far Far Away. Their music travels the length and breadth of Aotearoa with song subjects covering the people and places of these islands, from Janet Frame and Pike River miners, to the nor west winds of Canterbury.

They have played most types of venues from house concerts to the main stages at folk festivals. NZ Musician says of the band - “Our find of the day is this beautiful album by Wellington Americana band The Wooden Box Band. A great variety of styles, some great songs, all with beautifully harmonised vocals."
