Toby & The Rest Jazz Quartet

'Toby & The Rest' four young pupils from Avondale College who took part in the New Zealand Youth Jazz Competition in April, then the Aspire Music Competition in Australia in July and recently got Gold at the NZ Schools Jazz competition at the Point Chev RSA.

They played one2one for the first time on Sunday 25th August and were immediately invited back by Chris Priestly who runs the one2one cafe. The quartet consists of Max Barrett (Drums) Toby Barrett (Saxophone) Tyler Diprose (Bass) and Lucas Kewell (Piano) Playing a variety of jazz pieces ranging from Joseph Kosma and Burt Howard from the 1950's to Joshua Redman in the 90's.

Lucas Kewell will also play some of his own impro-solo-piano with hints of Michel Legrand and Keith Jarrett. The quartet have only played two public performances before this and people left those gigs inspired at the skill and passion of these young lads.
