Tumanako is an Auckland based art exhibition for youth, by youth. On the event day, there will be artworks from students aged under 18 as well as musical performances that communicate the idea of "Peace".
This year, Tumanako is commemorating the 74th anniversary of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings, as well as supporting our Muslim community in Christchurch. At the same time, we will also celebrate the 32nd anniversary of Aotearoa, New Zealand, becoming a nuclear-free country and the 2nd anniversary of the treaty on the prohibition of nuclear weapons.
With the earnest support of our school, Soka Gakkai International of New Zealand (SGINZ), Auckland University of Technology, Auckland Council Libraries, Peace Foundation, Roots and Shoots and UNICEF New Zealand, our team is aiming to raise awareness of the dangers of nuclear proliferation and empower youth to take action in the support of peaceful coexistence. This we will do by displaying the artworks of children aged 18 and under that embody the kind of dreams they wish to share of living in a peaceful, nuclear-free world.
