A once in a lifetime opportunity to experience the wonderful history and cultural significance of the World’s Longest Place Name, Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamatea turipukakapikimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuakitanatahu.
The day starts with a beautiful Powhiri by members of Ngati Kere, with light refreshments before heading to Taumata Hill, known as the Longest Place Name in the World. Hear wonderful stories from locals and a very special cultural experience, with stunning views of Porangahau, Te Paerahi Beach and the coastline.
The walk to the summit of Taumata takes up to two hours. You will need good trail footwear and a reasonable level of fitness for the walk, there will be some transport available. Please bring your own refreshments and lunch.
If you require transport to the summit, please contact us to confirm this after purchasing your tickets.
Bus transport from Waipukurau to Porangahau and return, is available, please book the Transport ticket option as well as your Walk ticket.
The bus will leave from the Waipukurau Railway Station at 8am, returning at approximately 5pm.
Tickets $50 each for walk only, $60 with bus transport included
Under 12 years are free.
