The Ōhope Local Wild Food Challenge is part of a worldwide event series that has grown from small beginnings on the shores of Eastbourne, Wellington.
The Whakatāne District is brimming with wild kai and natural abundance, making it the perfect place to hold an event that celebrates our wild food.
The challenge is to get outside and hunt, gather, forage, barter or fish for local wild food and create a unique dish to be prepared on the day, and presented along with the story behind it.
For those less inclined to get wild and take up the challenge, the festival is still an awesome day out with live music, demonstrations and awesome summer vibes for young and old. An essential day in the Bay of Plenty summer calendar.
