Kapiti Concert Orchestra is pleased to present an afternoon of Light Summer Classics with conductor Michael Vinten who has chosen a varied programme of orchestral works and operatic arias featuring soprano soloist Michaela Cadwgan. With selections from Offenbach's "The Tales of Hoffmann" including the much loved Barcarolle and arias for the soprano heroines, to Debussy's charming "Petite Suite" which began life as a collection of pieces for piano duet and later orchestrated by Henri Busser in 1907, also a selection of movements from William Walton's outrageous "Facade Suite" based on the nonsense poetry of Edith Sitwell and with more arias by Michaela Cadwgan from Puccini operas including "O mio babbino caro" and "Senza Mamma" there should be something for everyone to enjoy. The Orchestra will perform a further selection of short works by Puccini including his first orchestral work written when he was just 17, the "Preludio a Orchestra. The concert should end on a high note with four movements full of French - style melodies and charm from Shostakovich's "The Human Comedy", Op 37.
