Please join us for an Inaugural Professorial Lecture by Professor Joe Boden. His topic will be: drugs, crime and other sensational stories from a career in research.

Professor Boden will talk about his background (childhood/family) and early interests and how these influenced his career choice and research interests. He will then talk about his research in substance use and aggression/violent offending, and discuss how his research has moved him into the policy sphere.

Professor Boden received his BA in Psychology from Boston University in 1988, an MA in Psychology from Case Western Reserve University in 1993, and a PhD in Psychology, also from Case Western Reserve University, in 1995, with research interests in experimental Social Psychology. After undertaking postdoctoral training in Psychology at the University of Virginia, Joe left the US to take up a lectureship at the University of Plymouth in the UK in 1997. In 2000 he moved to the University of Southern Queensland, before coming across the Tasman in late 2002, working at Lincoln University and the University of Canterbury. Joe started as a Research Fellow in the Christchurch Health and Development Study at the University of Otago, Christchurch in January 2005 and has remained there since.
