Holding this “Remembrance” concert a few short days before Armistice Day (11 November) gives the public an opportunity to reflect on and celebrate the ANZAC day that COVID-19 took from New Zealand. Many sacrifices have been made during the global pandemic, and yet these are a mere fraction of the suffering our small country experienced because of the World Wars and we want this to be remembered and appreciated. Our performance is described as an ‘exploration of sound and light,’ showcasing some well-known local artists and music, touching on the traditional elements of April 25th (the Last Post and Reveille) as well as paying homage to the musicians of the 1930s, and reminding audiences that we should not forget those who fought for our freedoms. Featuring the fantastic New Zealand Tenor Patrick Power ONZM, classical artist Dianne Abraham, and local singer-songwriter Wyn Drabble; along with the Hastings Choral Society and Voix de Femmes for massed voices and brass, this concert is sure to deliver on nostalgic memories and bittersweet goodbyes.
