Bloom presents, with the support of the Taupo Creative communities initiative, the first ever "Taupo Indie Nights" show. An all ages multi-genre gig showcasing some of the best up & coming original Indie acts touring Aotearoa. The idea is to put Taupo on the map for touring artists, and give our local bands a chance to open for them.

The line up:
Sit Down In Front (Gisborne)
False Heights (Taupo)
Jersey Bob & Our Monika (Taupo)
Alex Likes Boys (Taupo)

SIT DOWN IN FRONT
Coming from the small surfing village of Gisborne, it’s not surprising that Sit Down In Front produce a distinctive punk / surf vibe that is hard and fast. Having formed in early 2017 they are becoming well known for their tunes that cover every day life stuff and the stories that come with all their songs. Having recorded and self-produced their first album Red Light Runner at the ripe old age of 14 years, the process taught them an awful lot. Although they have not yet received multiple awards and platinum sales, the future is bright. Their sound is built on the foundations of classic punk rock, a bit raw, but with a touch of youthful innocents. Sit Down In Front has developed a unique sound, capturing both old and new, which can often be lost in the pursuit of the next new thing!

FALSE HEIGHTS
False Heights are a dynamic Indie-Pop Duo hailing from Taupo, Nz. April & Ashley Pirie are that Jimmy Eat World obsessed married couple jamming uniquely live looped melodic pop numbers who, when they strip it back to perform acoustically, switch seamlessly from an upbeat Indie-pop feel to a more singer-songwriter goose-bumpie vibe.
However it’s their upbeat Indie-Pop live set-up that separates the duo from the rest of their peers. Known for having an intrinsic connection to groove, drummer and lead guitarist Ashley uses a unique style of looping to become 2 band members in 1. Add to this April’s delicately rich vocals, melodic keys, electro-synth bass lines, and passion for story-telling and you’ve got False Heights.

JERSEY BOB & OUR MONIKA
Acoustic guitarist, Harmonica player and songwriter, Jerseybob has honed his solo stage show over the past 12 years. Now joined by his cajon and percussion wielding wife, Monika. He brings an eclectic mix of Folk, Comedy, Roots and Country music. Often a large part of his shows are Original, he can morph into Bob Dylan or Johnny Cash. His music has taken him to over 40 countries and around 17 albums later, still drifts around the planet writing from the heart. From outback Australia to sweat ridden Bali. The dry dusty deserts of Namibia to the cultural hub of Cape Town. Up and down the land of the long white cloud, NZ and through the wine stained country of France. Always finding solace through a guitar and a song. Monika adds a heartbeat to the songs with African heritage driving the beats forward. Currently they are residing in New Zealand but they have a backpack and travelling shoes just in reach.

ALEX LIKES BOYS
Alex Likes Boys are a 4 piece from Taupo NZ. They started when 2 ex backpackers from the UK met 2 local guys and started jamming in their garage. With a wide range of musical tastes they create a unique, fresh indie rock/folky sound. They take their influences from bands such as The Cure, The Strokes and The National.
