The Drum (and dance) Festival is a weekend festival of rhythm and dance, entertainment and education based on Banks Peninsula. Being the only dedicated festival of the drum in New Zealand it is a catalyst for the gathering of drum performers from throughout the South Island and beyond. Workshops on African Dance to performance by Japanese Taiko are part of a programme which involves over 50 performers/tutors and 200+ participants and guests which is very family orientated. The festival is held in the relaxed space of Manaia Native Habitat where participants can also stay (Little River Campground in Okuti Valley, Banks Peninsula). Past festivals have included Japanese Taiko, West African, Arabic, CSM Samba, Robert Fugah from Ghana (drum and dance), Ra McRostie and Doug Brush. Expect a stellar line up.
Some of you have been asking questions so we thought we'd share. BYO food + drinks as there's no onsite catering. We will have a KAVA cart, with drinks available. DOOR SALES are cash only. BE SUN SMART - bring sunblock, bottled water and togs for a dip in the river. CAMP SITES are available. See you soon.
An updated calendar is being finalised as Robert Fugah Koffie can no longer make the event. He has to fly back to Ghana for a family matter. We'll miss him but have Miro Klima coming from up north to run the workshops. he's also very awesome!

FRIDAY 20 Nov - gates open at 4pm. Gig at Okuti Hall from 7pm- 10.30pm. Chicha Creature headline the night with Reed St Posse, from all the way down the road and around the corner.
