The investigation into tapa stems from Sefton’s Cook Island heritage. Urban Tapa 2.0 takes the traditional form of tapa and re-energises it with contemporary materials, methods and motifs that reflect an industrialised environment. The works are created primarily with dried paint skins which are collaged into multi-layered works. The technique reflects the Japanese practice of wabi sabi, which represents the acceptance of transience and imperfection. Despite the use of non-traditional techniques and materials, these works evoke a sense of nostalgia and look as though they have been transplanted from their origins and into this new context.
All are welcome and refreshments will be provided.
