Mereana Warbrick explores the idea that certain languages can be interpreted as celestial, contextual and as a visual tongue thinning the veil between past and present when spoken, written and created in art form. For Warbrick, “Te Reo Māori, Hebrew and all indigenous languages connect to Atua (God), Whenua (Land) and Tangata (People). Māori have communicated with Io (God) since the dawn of time.” Warbrick’s whakapapa and her Christianity form a foundation to her art practice and are an integral part of her mahi.
