With humour and humanity, Rosemary Riddell describes life as a New Zealand District Court and Family Court Judge in her book 'To Be Fair'. Rosemary only became a lawyer at age 40, juggling study with raising a young family. She was later invited to apply to be a judge and served 12 years full time on the bench, before taking up an Acting Warrant, which enabled her to work part-time, travelling around the country on an as-needed basis. Just before the book was published, Riddell relinquished her Acting Warrant, giving her the freedom to speak candidly about the experience.
