Mexican documentary film

Grab your friends and join us for a free screening of the documentary film Sunú (2015) directed by Teresa Camou Guerrero. The film tells the stories of Mexican maize producers fighting for food sovereignty in the face of globalised food production.

We will be screening this feature film in the Guest Room at the Southern Cross Garden Bar Restaurant, where you’ll be able to buy food and beverages to enjoy while you watch the film. The movie will kick off at 7pm, so arrive early if you want a front-row spot!

About the film:
Seen through the eyes of small, midsize and large Mexican maize producers, SUNÚ knits together different stories from a threatened rural world. It journeys deep into the heart of a country where people are determined to stay free, to work the land and cultivate their seeds, to be true to their cultures and forms of spirituality, all in a modern world that both needs them and despises them. SUNÚ reveals how maize and everything it gives life to could be lost forever, and shares a generous tapestry of simple, heartfelt messages for the farmers of the world and the city-dwellers who could lose the capability to make important choices unless they act soon.

Note: The film is in Spanish with English subtitles.

Due to venue requirements, you must be over 18 to attend, so please bring your ID.

Entry is free, but bookings are essential as spaces are limited. Register now!
