inDep is a dance and musical theatrical presentation retelling and reinventing on the present time significant stories and historical milestones of the “Pearl of the Orient” – the Philippines.

The design and approach have been taken from three different perspectives of the main characters – Father Ed-G, a Spanish priest who embodies the significant contributions of the Spaniards; Professor H, a history professor who characterizes the academic and scientific look at nation’s chronicles; and Trini, a personification of modern day ‘millennials’ and the innovative guise of the past.

Their standpoints were the anchors of presenting cultures, traditions, and valuable accounts of the Philippines. With a diverse display of performances, showcasing Filipino and some foreign talents of New Zealand, the presentation integrates the essence of celebrating 500 Years of Christianity and intersecting it on the 123rd Year of Philippine Independence on the live stage.

These two momentous commemorations manifest its value through a series of artistic and creative dance and theatre musical. The show likewise features important figures as well as festivals of the country, and a display of performance and literary arts.

His story. Her story. History. The show’s second title identifies the retelling of the tale into assorted angles and styles. Moreover, it immortalizes the stories of Ferdinand Magellan (the Portuguese colonizer), the anecdote of the Mother Land the accounts of the past as represented by the three main characters.

inDep is a presentation produced by Pinoy C.A.R.E.S Canterbury featuring the Hornby High School Filipino Youth Group and the Sinulog Fiesta of Christchurch. It is written and directed by industry artists both from the Philippines and New Zealand.
