Biography
As a child I loved drawing and creating. I trained at Whitecliffe Art School and worked as a graphic artist in my younger years. It was later in life when my children became more independent that I again picked up my brush and started creating illustrations of birds and landscapes. I used to draw and paint wild imagined images and figurative images. Now my interest has been mainly the west coast but the figurative is still there. Most of my works have an element of peace, realism and something about God, Spiritual or surreal. In this exhibition water, the landforms and woman are my subject. My desire is to invoke a sense atmosphere and Gods presence as I feel. Pohutakawa trees are very special to me. They represent a feminine beauty and form. They survive and grow anywhere, even on rocks. I paint canvases in which I present two or three meanings or scenes in one, like cycles of life, close-ups of what is around me, or just capturing the essence of a place that I have both explored and loved.
